Slightly disappointed by these two volumes I d never read any Tardi before so maybe this wasn t the best to start with but I found them very slow Now the artwork is incredible and I love the setting and the tone but the plotting and dialogue were often glacial and the main character Adele was curiously passive things happened to her but she herself rarely seemed to do anything The back of the second volume of this edition carries a blurb saying that these books are a parody of the standard tropes and forms of the genre including disloyal henchmen inept gendarmes and talky exposition and that may be but when one isn t very familiar with the genre apart from some Tintin it makes for an occasionally tedious read How Money Became Dangerous delightful incursion of some characters.
