review Trusting the Sheriff Ô eBook or Kindle ePUB Is she a good cop gone badIf only she could rememberSuffering amnesia injured detective Abby Baker can’t believe her sergeant actually th The second Intrigue book I ve read by Janice Kay Johnson and the second I ve given 1 star to The author has written books for the Super Romance line for many years and has moved to Intrigue since that line closed Considering that she seems to prefer delivering books with zero plot and a focus on romance perhaps she could consider a move to the Romantic Suspense lineDetective Abby Baker has amnesia after being shot Her police partner has been killed and her own boss seems to think she was behind it Abby thinks she s still got someone after her so she goes to stay with her Amish aunt and uncle to hide out Her boss sends in his old buddy the Sheriff Caleb Tanner to keep an eye on her and see what he can dig up Of course he s taken in by Abby s beauty and Amish innocenceI m not a fan of the hide out at the cabin trope and I m not fond of most Amish based stories either Linda Castillo s books an exception Aside from a couple of half baked attempts on Abby s life this is just so dreary and dull The relationship between Abby and Caleb didn t have any spark Whatever it is that killed Abby s partner and nearly her is a complete unknown and then described offhand in a sentence or two at the end So for the most part we don t even know what Abby is actually running from Huh The climactic showdown is confusingly described and completely lacking any suspense As is the rest of the story These are all the exact criticisms I had of Johnson s previous book Hide The Child Something tells me she s not about to change her formulaTrust me when I say to avoid this snorefest
