Download ´ Brave Not Perfect ï PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB In a book inspired by her popular TED talk New York Times bestselling author Reshma Saujani empowers women and girls to embrace imperfection and braveryImagine if you lived without the fear of not being good enough If you didn't care how your life looked on Instagram or worry about what total strangers thought of you Imagine if you could let go of the guilt and stop beating yourself up for tiny mistakes What if in every decision you faced you took the bolder pathToo many of us feel crushed under the weight of our own expectations We run ourselves ragged trying to please. I was so excited to read this book when I initially got it The title hooked me and the summary was right up my ally This book was a spectacular disappointment and I m so sad First things first this book claims to talk about how young women are trained to be perfect and not brave it does that but it does so without addressing socioeconomic status race and a myriad of other issues that impact the ways in which the desire to be perfect manifests For example as a black women I already know that both my being a woman AND being black impacts my prospects of moving upwards in pretty much anything So yes I am a perfectionist by nature but it is out of necessity that I am perfect I am not afforded the chances to fail in the same way that other women are allowed to fail From there the book discusses championing other women but what happens when you champion everyone but others don t get on board I saw this a lot with the women s march It was supposed to be for ALL women but it basically centered on white feminist needs and left out the issues that impact women of color all together women of color showed up white women left us behind The good part of the book because there was some were the tips to start shifting the mindset Being brave is a mindset and learning not to fear failure is important I liked her tips at the end but to me this book could ve been about 100 pages shorter I wish this book had been better I wanted it to be better but it let me down a lot Maybe next time someone will write the book with all it s nuance and be brave and take the deep dive into the real real issues
