Very interesting novel Definitely hard to read but it s worth all the while I struggled to find time to read this as there are so many other books that you don t need to repeat reading many lines because they are easier to understand However reading Beckett is like reading Joyce James The struggle makes them different It is as if they wanted to be different from all the rest They wanted to give us a memorable experience that we would never get from reading easy to understand mainstream novels Though they are not for everyone they give us readers a choice an exceptional choice because they are both exceptional postmodern novelists Molloy the novel is about Molloy a vagrant who bicycle riding man who goes around the town and meets several interesting characters The characters and the encounters are described by Beckett in sketchy kind of way that there are times in your reading when you don t know what is going on and why there has to be that character and why there has to be that event or if that event is really happening or it is just a dream you don t know However you are totally mesmerized by Beckett s writing and how he uses words and phrases that you will never ever thought of assembling if you write your own story or novel He is that genius Even if I read all Beckett novels I will never be able to duplicate his style That s for sure so I am just and will be forever a Beckett fan Molloy is also about Jacues Moran father to his son who is also named Jacues Moran is a detective and he tracks Molloy because in the course of Molloy s trip on his bicycle he commits a crime The narrative is interesting because of the twist while reading you will have the feeling that Moran is actually Molloy So the uestion that creeps into your mind is how can he find where Molloy is or how can he apprehend Molloy is he is in fact him I guess this is where the brilliance of the novel is the duality of the main character How Beckett was able to think that the two characters Molloy and Moran can be the same person and Beckett twists your mind to believe that it is possible by the way of two narratives using present tense so you will feel that they are real and you are indeed watching them rather than reading them that are totally differently told at least in style but somehow connectedI just have to give it to Beckett He is so brilliant that you just have to read on and on and gasp how could he pull off these wonderful novels Hard to read but oh well Beautiful Beautiful
